Ray Records 1,000th Career Rebound in Men’s Basketball’s Fourth-Straight Win

NEWARK, Del. – With his eighth rebound Saturday afternoon, Christian Ray joined the 1,000 rebound club as he and the University of Delaware men's basketball team topped William & Mary 69-58 for its fourth-straight win. The Blue Hens move to 16-9 overall and 8-4 in league play, while the Tribe stumble to 8-17, 3-9 CAA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Ray finished with 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for his fourth double-double on the campaign.
Jyáre Davis led all scorers with 21 points. He added 10 boards to mark his third-straight game with a double-double. He's the first Hen with at least three in a row since Dylan Painter registered five-consecutive in January 2021.
Niels Lane recorded his second-best scoring output as a Hen with 16 points and a 7-for-13 afternoon.
Gerald Drumgoole Jr. rounded out the quartet of double-figure scorers with 11 points.
Delaware won the turnover battle (6 to 12), points off turnover (12 to 5), points in the paint (44 to 32), and second chance points (21-15).

HOW IT HAPPENED

An evenly matched contest through the opening four minutes saw an 8-8 tie at the under-16 media stoppage. With a 14-11 lead for the visitors, UD collected a 7-0 run over 3:08 to pull ahead 18-14 with 11:09 left in the first. Knotted at 20, the Hens scored eight unanswered over 2:58 to lead 28-20 with just under four minutes remaining. The Tribe fought back to head into the break down, 31-30.
A back-and-forth affair over the first few minutes of the second period saw W&M up 38-36 before the Hens went 12-2 over 5:44 for a 48-40 lead at the 11:37 mark. Most of the same through the 6:55 stoppage with UD ahead 54-48. The Blue & Gold stayed the course the rest of the way 15-10 to secure the win.

GAME NOTES

Jalun Trent tied his career mark with three steals.
The Hens are now 12-2 when leading at halftime this season and 15-0 when leading with less than 2:00 to play.
UD moves to 82-22 under head coach Martin Ingelsby when holding its opponents under 70 points, including 13-1 this season. Delaware has done so in four of the last five games.
The Blue & Gold move to 2-0 in rematch games this season with wins over Towson and William & Mary.

UP NEXT
The Hens head south to North Carolina for a two-game swing at Elon on Thursday and at North Carolina A&T on Saturday.
