Turnovers, Free Throw Woes Crush Men’s Basketball at Elon

ELON, N.C. – A season-high 16 turnovers and season-low 42.9 percent from the line crushed the University of Delaware men's basketball team Thursday at Elon, with the Phoenix finishing on top, 73-67. The Blue Hens drop to 16-10, 8-5 CAA, while Elon moves to 11-15, 4-9 CAA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Gerald Drumgoole Jr. posted a season-high 24 points on 8-for-17 shooting and 6-for-12 from long range. He added five assists and four boards to his line.
Jyáre Davis notched his fourth-straight double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Christian Ray also tallied a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first few minutes were relatively the same before Elon took a two-possession lead heading into the under-12 media, 16-12. Delaware cut it to two at the next break, 20-18, with four-straight points coming from Ray during the stretch. Tied at 20, Elon pulled ahead by seven, aided by a trio of triples on an 11-4 run. The teams traded the final 14 points for a 38-31 Elon lead.
With the home team up 48-40, Delaware dashed off to a 7-0 run over 1:23 to force an Elon timeout with 13:32 left for a one-point game. A 6-3 advantage for the Hens put UD on top for the first time all game 53-51 at the 9:41 stoppage. A 19-7 run over 10:02 all but finished the game. Elon would lead by as many as 10 the rest of the way.
