Baseball Splits Double Header Against North Florida To Open Season

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- In game one, the Blue Hens offense scored seven runs off nine base hits, and walked seven times. Individually, UD was led by Aidan Kane, Andrew Amato, and Aaron Graeber. Kane went a perfect 3-of-3, had two RBI's, and drew a walk. Amato went 2-of-4, hit one home run and drove in three runs. Graeber went 2-of-5. Bryce Greenly started the game for the Blue Hens. He pitched two innings, gave up two earned runs off two hits and walked three batters Ethan Shaub was credited with the decision. He allowed three earned runs off five hits in one inning of work.Â
- In game two, the Blue Hens scored six runs off eight hits, and walked two times. Graeber (2-of-4) and Jake Dunion (2-of-4) each had multiple hits and two RBI's. Kane had a two-run home run. Freshman Tyler August, in his first career start, pitched four innings, allowed one run off one hit, and walked two batters, while striking out six. He was credited with the win, the first of his career. Eli Atiya came in relief for August. He pitched three innings, gave up zero runs off three hits and struck out one batter. He was credited with the save.Â

GAME ONE
- North Florida's Cade Bush opened the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the third to give the Osprey's a 2-0 lead
- Andrew Amato broke the game open and gave the Blue Hens a 3-2 lead with a 3-run home run. Sacrifice fly's from Brett Lesher and Josearmado Diaz extended the Blue Hen lead to 5-2 in the fourth inning.Â
- After the Osprey's scored four unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings, Aidan Kane gave the Blue Hens a 7-6 lead with a two run double in the top of the seventhÂ
- The Osprey's rallied and scored three unanswered runs in the bottom of the eighth. The Blue Hens were unable to get anything going in the top of the ninth.Â
- After August gave up a run in the bottom of the first inning, it was all Hens for the remainder of the game.
- Graeber got things going with a solo home run in the top of the second and added a second RBI in the top of the third.Â
- Jake Dunion and Kane broke the game open in the top of the fifth. Dunion hit a two-run double to open the fifth, and Kane finished it off with a two-run home run to make it a 6-1 lead.Â
- Eli Atiya finished the game with three strong innings from the bullpen, striking out one batter, and allowing zero runs off two hits.Â
- Friday was the first ever series between the Blue Hens and the Osprey's. UD picked up its first ever win against North Florida in the second game of the double header.

Sunday's game has been postponed due to weather. The Blue Hens will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 20 against Delaware State at Bob Hannah Stadium at 4 p.m.
