Strong Pitching Leads to Baseball Win Over Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A strong pitching performance led by Doug Marose, Eli Atiya and Anthony Gubitosi helped lead the University of Delaware baseball team to a 2-1 victory over Jacksonville on Sunday.

With the win, the Blue Hens captured their first series win of the season, and improved their overall record to 4-2.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

The Blue Hens earned hits from Aiden Stewart and Jake Dunion. The offense went 2-of-29, walked four times, struck out seven times and left four runners on base. Andrew Amato captured a stolen base as well.
Marose started the game off. He pitched in 5.2 innings, allowed one earned run off of three hits, struck out six batters, and walked two, In relief was Atiya and Gubitosi. The two finished the game off with 3.1 innings pitched, allowed zero runs, zero hits, walked two batters, and struck out six. Marose was credited with the win (1-0), and Gubitosi was credited with the save.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Marose gave up his lone run in the first, Stewart hit an RBI double in the bottom of the third scoring Chris Dengler. Andrew Amato scored in the same sequence off a throwing error.
From there, the Marose, Atiya, and Gubitosi pitched lights out. The Dolphins lineup went 3-of-29 for the day, and struck out 12 times.

The Blue Hens are now 2-1 all time against the Dolphins

The Blue Hens return to Bob Hannah Stadium for a stretch of four home games next week. They will start by facing off against Lehigh on Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. and will host Lafayette from March 1-3.
