NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware baseball team used a pair of four-run innings to cruise to an 11-4 victory over Lafayette on Friday night in the series opener at Bob Hannah Stadium. With the win, the Blue Hens improve to 5-3 on the season while the Leopards fall to 0-8.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS

Ethan Shaub made his first start of the season on the mound and earned the victory as he allowed just two hits and one unearned run over 4.0 innings with three strikeouts.
Bryce Greenly finished with three hits and three RBIs while also scoring two runs.
Andrew Amato was on base three times with a hit and two walks and also scored two runs.
Joey Loynd had two RBIs and two runs scored while Aiden Stewart and Brett Lesher both also scored twice.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Hens opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-out double by Amato and an RBI single from Aidan Kane.
After the Leopards tied things in the top of the third, Greenly delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead. Aaron Graeber and Jake Dunion also drove in runs to give UD a 5-1 lead.
Single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, on a Graeber RBI double and a solo home run by Lesher, extended the lead to 7-1.
Lafayette made it 7-3, but a four-run eighth inning, led by a Loynd two-run single, pulled the Blue Hens ahead for good.

UP NEXT
The two teams will continue their three-game series on Saturday. Due to the weather forecast, first pitch has been moved back to 6 p.m.
