Bats Go Quiet as Baseball Falls to Lafayette on Saturday

NEWARK, Del. – In a pitching duel that featured 30 total strikeouts and just seven base hits, the University of Delaware baseball team dropped a tough 4-2 decision to Lafayette on Saturday night at Bob Hannah Stadium. With the setback, the Blue Hens slip to 5-4 on the season while the Leopards improve to 1-8.
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Tyler August started on the mound and set a new career high and UD season high with nine strikeouts over 3.2 innings pitched.
- Eli Atiya also set a career high with eight strikeouts over 5.1 innings of one-hit relief.
- Joey Loynd and Andrew Amato were both on base twice.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lafayette took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but the Blue Hens quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. Aiden Stewart drove in Jake Dunion with a sacrifice fly before Loynd singled in Brett Lesher to give UD a 2-1 lead.
- The Leopards regained the lead with a three-run fourth inning to go up 4-2.
- Delaware put two runners on base in both the fourth and fifth innings but could not cut into the lead before only having one baserunner over the final four innings.
UP NEXT
The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch at Bob Hannah Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
