Baseball Drops Game Against Rutgers

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware baseball team drops a the first game of a three game series against Rutgers by a score of 15-10 on Friday at Bob Hannah Stadium.Â
HEN HIGHLIGHTS

The Blue Hens went 13-of-38 from the plate on Friday. They drove in nine RBI's, hit four home runs, walked five times, struck out nine times and left seven runners on base.Â

Five Blue Hens had multi hit games: Bryce Greenly (2-of-5, 2B, RBI), Joey Loynd (3-of-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 2B), Andrew Amato (3-of-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 2B), Jake Dunion (2-of-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2B) and Tyler Leach (2-of-5, 2 HR, 2 RBI)

Tyler Strechay started the game for the Blue Hens. He pitched 2.1 innings, gave up five earned runs off five hits, didn't walk any batters and struck out three. In relief were Carter Welch and Owen Margolis. The two combined to pitch 6.2 innings, gave up 10 earned runs off nine hits, walked seven batters and struck out four. Margolis was credited with the decision.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ

The Blue Hens got things going offensively with two runs in the bottom of the first off of an Andrew Amato Sacrifice fly and a Jake Dunion RBI single.Â

Despite the Scarlet Knights cutting the Blue Hen lead to 2-1, Tyler Leach hit a solo home run to deep center field to make it a 3-1 game. Leach hit a second home run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Scarlet Knights rallied off five runs between the third and fourth innings to make it 6-3

They fought back and tied the game thanks to a Bryce Greenly double that scored Brett Lesher. Greenly would score in the same sequence off a throwing error from the second baseman. Dunion tied the game on an RBI double to make it 6-6.Â

After the Scarlet Knights re-took the lead at 10-7, a two run home run from Loynd, and a solo home run from Amato tied the game at 10-10 in the seventh.Â

A grand slam for Rutgers in the top of the eighth inning made it a 14-10 game, and proved to be too much for the Blue Hens to overcome.Â
