Baseball Earns Series Victory with 8-5 Win Over Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The University of Delaware baseball team defeated Campbell by a score of 8-5 and picked up its first Coastal Athletic Association series win on Sunday.
With the win, the Blue Hens overall record improves to 11-11, and they'll start off CAA play with a 2-1 record.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Offensively, the Blue Hens went 14-of-40 from the plate, drove in eight RBI's, walked four times, and struck out nine.

Individually, the Blue Hens were led by Andrew Amato, Aiden Stewart and Jackson Tyer, all three had three hits each. Amato went 3-of-5, batted in two runs, two twice, and hit one double. Stewart went 3-of-4, batted in three runs, and hit one double. Tyer also went 3-of-4, hit one double, scored once, walked once, and stole one base.

Tyler Strechay started on the mound for the Blue Hens. He pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four earned runs off five hits, and didn't walk any batters while striking out three. In relief was Ethan Shaub, Owen Margolis, Christian Colmery and Eli Atiya. Shaub went 3.2 innings, gave up no runs, five hits and struck out three batters.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ

The Blue Hens struck first as Andrew Amato hit an RBI double, scoring Joey Loynd in the top of the first.

After the Camels rattled off four runs between the first and second innings, UD started chipping away at the lead. Loynd and Aiden Stewart both drove in a run off an RBI single in the top of the third inning. Brett Lesher and Eric Ludman both hit RBI singles in the top of the sixth to give the Blue Hens a 5-4 lead.Â

UD added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Stewart drove in Amato off of a throwing error. In the eighth, Amato hit a single to left field, scoring Bryce Greenly, and Stewart brought in Amato off an RBI double.Â

The Camels scored a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Atiya shut the rally threat down with two pop outs and a fielder's choice.Â

The Blue Hens and Camels have now played each other five times, with the Blue Hens taking a 3-2 series lead.
