Baseball Splits Double Header Against Quinnipiac

NEWARK, Del. -Â The University of Delaware baseball program split a double header against Quinnipiac on Friday at Bob Hannah Stadium.Â

UD dropped the first game 6-2 but won the second game by a score of 11-2.

The Blue Hens will have Saturday off but will be back on Sunday, March 10 for the final game of the series against Quinnipiac at 1 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.Â

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- In game one, the Blue Hens hit 6-of-27, drove in two runs, hit one home run, left seven runners on base, and walked three times. Bryce Greenly was the one Blue Hens with multiple hits, where he went 2-of-4 for the day. Ethan Shaub started the game and was credited with the decision. He went 2.2 innings, gave up three runs, two of which were earned, and walked three batters.Â
- In game two, went 8-for-31 from the plate, driving in 11 runs, hit one home run, walked nine times and struck out 11. The offense was led by Joey Loynd, who had 4 of the Blue Hens 8 hits, hit one home run and drove in five RBI's. Brett Lesher was the other Blue Hens with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Starting on the mound for UD was Tyler August. He pitched 5.2 innings, gave up zero hits, one earned run, walked six batters and struck out 10. Eli Atiya came in relief for UD. He pitched the remaining 3.1 innings, gave up one earned run off two hits, struck out four batters and walked on. He was credited with the win.Â

GAME ONE
- After Quinnipiac got on the board in the top of the second inning, the Blue Hens quickly responded in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run from Aaron Graeber.
- Quinnipiac retook the lead thanks to two solo home runs at 3-1. Delaware chipped away at the Bobcat lead with an RBI groundout to second base from Aiden Stewart in the bottom of the fourth.Â
- The Bobcats added three additional runs in the top of the sixth and seventh and would become too much for the Blue Hens to overcomeÂ
- After five scoreless innings, both the Blue Hens and Bobcats got on the board. The Blue Hens scored on an RBI single from Joey Loynd and a two run double from Aiden Stewart to center field.Â
- Loynd continued his hot start to the game, and hit his first grand slam of the season, extending the Blue Hen led to 7-1. The grand slam started a seventh inning rally that scored seven runs and extended their lead to 11-2 in the bottom of the eighth.Â
- The Blue Hens overall record against Quinnipiac is now 6-1.Â
