No. 6 Men’s Basketball Blows Past No. 14 Hampton in CAA Championship Second Round

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With a CAA Championship record in field goal percentage defense, the No. 6 University of Delaware men's basketball team blew past No. 14 Hampton on Saturday night, 80-50. The Blue Hen defense held the Pirates to just 23.4 percent from the field, topping a record that stood in place since ODU held VCU to 26.1 percent on February 27, 1999.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware shot 48.3 percent on the day, including a 63.3 percent first half.
- Gerald Drumgoole Jr. posted a game-high 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-4 from deep, in just 16 minutes of action.
- Cavan Reilly recorded 14 points on a 5-of-8 evening, hitting 3-of-6 from long range.
- Jalun Trent rounded out a trio of double-digit scorers with 12 points. He corralled seven rebounds and swiped two steals.
- Tyler Houser paced the Hens with nine rebounds, his most as a Blue Hen.
- Christian Ray set a career high with three blocks.
- The Hens opened a sizable lead with a 12-2 advantage over 5:50 to make it a 17-5 score. During that stretch, UD held Hampton scoreless for 5:08. Delaware continued to pour it on up to the under-eight media timeout with a 28-7 lead. The Blue & Gold cruised to a 51-16 lead at the half, having shot 63.3 percent overall and 45.5 percent from long range, while holding the Pirates to 14.7 percent overall and 7.1 percent from deep.
- Delaware rolled to a 12-2 run up to the timeout at 15:20. The run included a Hampton drought of 3:15. The Hens would pull ahead by as many as 47 before the Pirates fell by 30.
- Delaware moves to 11-7 when scoring first this season and 14-2 when leading at the half.
- The 16 first-half points surrendered is the fewest allowed by Delaware in any half this season.
- The Hens' 51 points to open the game is one shy of the season best.
- Head coach Martin Ingelsby is tied for ninth all-time in CAA Championship wins with nine. He joins Brad Brownell of UNCW and Joe Mihalich of Hofstra.
- All available Blue Hens played in Saturday's game.
