NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's golf team is heading to the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships. The Blue Hens, who earned the CAAs automatic bid, will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the Bermuda Run Regional, hosted by Wake Forest. Play will be held at Bermuda Run Country Club and the three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held May 6-8.
Delaware earned the No. 10 seed in the 12-team field. The other teams that will be joining the Blue Hens at the regional include the host and top-seeded Wake Forest as well as Texas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, UCF, South Florida, Tennessee, Oregon State, North Texas, Charleston Southern and Navy.
The Blue Hens are coming off their third CAA championship in program history, and first since 2017. Delaware erased a five-stroke deficit on the final day of the championship to win with a three-round score of 45-over par, just four strokes ahead of Charleston and UNCW. It was the first time in CAA history that the top three teams were separated by less than five shots.
Junior Lilia Henkel sunk a long birdie putt on the final hole to clinch the team victory and put herself into a tie atop the individual standings. On the first playoff hole, she chipped in from off the green for another birdie to claim the individual title to become the second Blue Hen to take the honor and the first since Andi Slane won consecutive CAA Championships in 2015 and 2016.
The low five teams and the individual not on those teams from each of the six regionals will advance to the finals which will be held from May 17-22 in Carlsbad, California. Beginning in 2024, regional champion awards will be given to the team champions.
