Baseball Dropped Conference Game Against Hofstra in Extra Innings

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Despite a late ninth inning rally, the University of Delaware baseball team dropped a Coastal Athletic Association game against Hofstra by a score of 5-4 in 11 innings on Saturday.

With the loss, the Blue Hens are now 14-14 overall and are 4-4 in CAA play.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Andrew Amato (3-for-5, 2 2B, BB), Bryce Greenly (2-for-5, RBI, BB) and Aaron Graeber (2-for-4, 2B) had multiple hits. The Blue Hens offense had 11 hits on the day
Doug Marose started the game for the Blue Hens. He pitched five innings, allowed one earned run off three hits, walked one batter and struck out three. In relief was Eli Atiya, Owen Margolis and Carter Welch. Atiya went three innings, gave up three earned runs off seven hits, walked and struck out a batter. Margolis and Welch pitched the final 2.2 innings, gave up one earned run off three hits, walked and struck out a batter. Margolis was credited with the decision.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pride got on the board first, scoring the game's first run in the bottom of the fifth, and added a second run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 2-0.
Chris Dengler cut the Pride lead to 2-1 in the top of the seventh off a fielder's choice, scoring Bryce Greenly.
Hofstra added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to add to its lead.
UD didn't go down without a fight and tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the ninth. The rally started with a Chris Dengler double that scored Andrew Amato, followed by a wild pitch that scored Brett Lesher and a Bryce Greenly single that scored Jake Dunion to tie the game.
The Pride walked it off in the bottom of the 11th.
