Baseball Wins Series Against Hofstra with 8-1 Victory

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The University of Delaware baseball team closed out its three game Coastal Athletic Association series against Hofstra with a 8-1 win on Sunday.

With the win, the Blue Hens are now 15-14 overall and are 5-4 in CAA play.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Chris Dengler (2-for-4) and Aaron Graeber (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) had multiple hits on the day, and combined for four of the Blue Hens nine hits offensively.
Dom Velazquez started on the mound for the Blue Hens. He pitched 1.1 innings, allowed one earned run off four hits. It was his first appearance on the mound since May 20, 2022.
In relief was Tyler Strechay. He pitched 5.2 innings, didn't allow any runs off five hits, walked two batters and struck out five. He was credited with the decision and is now 1-0 on the season. Ethan Shaub pitched the final inning. He didn't allow any runs or hits and struck out one batter.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After the Pride got on the board in the bottom of the second off a wild pitch, it was all Blue Hens the rest of the way.
Joey Loynd was hit by a pitch in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1. Moments later, Andrew Amato drove in two runs off a single to give UD its first lead of the game.
Loynd hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth, his fifth of the season, and Eric Ludman drove in a run off a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh to make it 6-1.
UD added two more runs with RBI singles from Aaron Graeber and Brett Lesher.

GAME NOTES

The Blue Hens own a 85-33 all-time series lead over the Pride.

The Blue Hens return to action on Tuesday, April 9 for the second round of the Liberty Bell Classic against Lafayette in Easton, Pa. at 3 p.m.
If UD defeats Lafayette, it will play in the LBC Championship on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m.
