Loynd Drives in 10 Runs as Blue Hens Advance to Liberty Bell Classic Championship

EASTON, Pa. - The University of Delaware baseball team advances to the Liberty Bell Classic Championship with a win over Lafayette by a score of 22-2 in seven innings on Tuesday.
With the win, the Blue Hens record improves to 16-14 overall. They will play Rider at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday at 4 p.m. It will be the third straight season UD will play in the LBC Championship.
The 22 runs was also the most UD scored in a game this season.
Because of today's result, the Blue Hens game against St. Joe's will be moved to Tuesday, April 23 and will be played in Philadelphia.Â

The Blue Hens were led by Joey Loynd, who went 4-for-6, hit a home run and drove in 10 runs, along with Brett Lesher (3-for-3, 2 RBI, 2B) and Aaron Graeber (2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 BB, 2B, 5 RBI).

Starting on the mound for UD was Christian Colmery. He pitched in two innings, allowed two hits, walked two batters, and struck out one. He allowed no runs in the outing. In relief was Wyatt Nelson, Elias Conway and Nate Rolka. The three went five innings, allowed two earned runs off five hits, and walked and struck out six batters. Colmery was credited with the win and is now 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ

The Blue Hens offense got going in the top of the second inning when Graeber hit a two run home run and Loynd drove in two runs off a double to make it 4-0.

In the top of the fourth, Loynd drove in three more runs off a second double, along with an Andrew Amato two-run home run. Amato's home run was his 100th hit of his college career.

Loynd stayed hot from the plate the following inning and drove in three more runs off a home run to make it 12-1.

UD added 10 more runs over the next two innings. In the sixth, Loynd had an RBI double, Tanner Donati scored on a wild pitch, and Lesher drove in a run off a double. In the seventh, Tyler August, Ayden Frey and Lesher drove in a run, and Graeber hit a three run home run.
