Softball Falls To UNCW In CAA Tournament, Elimination Game Vs Campbell Suspended In Third Inning

WILMINGTON, N.C. - University of Delaware softball was defeated by UNCW during CAA Tournament in 11 innings before their elimination game against No. 1 seed Campbell was suspended after the third inning, with the game tied at two apiece.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS, VS UNCW

Emily Winburn took a shutout into the 11th inning, and finished with 10.2 innings pitched, two earned runs allowed, three walks, and eight strikeouts.
Morgan Hess and Gianna Costaro both went 2-for-4, with Hess also recording a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED, VS UNCW

Winburn struck out one in a hitless first inning. She then worked out of a second and third, one out jam in the second with back-to-back strikeouts.
In the third, she recorded two groundouts and a flyout sandwiched between a single.
Winburn was perfect in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning, recording two more strikeouts along the way.
In the seventh, UNCW put the leadoff runner on and advanced her all the way to third with two outs, but Winburn recorded a strikeout to strand the go-ahead run in scoring position.
A bunt single and hit by pitch put two runners on for UNCW in the eighth, but Winburn induced a groundout to end the threat.
Two more runners reached base in the ninth, but a strikeout, lineout, and flyout helped Winburn navigate another scoreless inning.
She then pitched a perfect 10th inning.
An infield single, error, and intentional walk loaded the bases for UNCW in the 11th. Two singles and a groundout put UNCW up 4-0, as Winburn was relieved from the game. UNCW added another run on a passed ball to go up 5-0.
Two walks and a single to lead off the bottom of the 11th began a comeback attempt for Delaware, but UNCW held on.

In Delaware's game against Campbell, the Blue Hens scored two in the first inning to take an early lead. Katie Scheivert and Julia Boyet both singled and Sydney Shaffer walked to load the bases. Chloe Blantz singled in Scheivert and Boyet to put Delaware up 2-0.

Winburn stranded the bases loaded in the first inning, and left a runner at third in the second with a strikeout of the CAA Player of the Year, Alyssa Henault. Campbell scored two two-out runs in the third to tie it before the game was called due to inclement weather.

Delaware will resume today's game at 12:00 P.M. tomorrow. The CAA Conference Tournament Championship Game is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. If necessary, Game 11 of the conference tournament will be played that same evening.
