NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's golf season officially ended in April when the Blue Hens finished fifth at the 2024 CAA Championships. However, since then, several UD student-athletes have played in prominent tournaments outside of the college circuit and have put some low numbers on the scorecard.
PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship
Sparky Ariyachatvakin and Egor Zubov played last week in the men's individual at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship, held at TPC Sawgrass in Pontre Vedra Beach, Florida. Ariyachatvakin had a great first two rounds shooting scores of 72 and 71 to sit in a tie for first place at 1-under par. He finished fifth overall at 2-over par after a third-round score of 75. Zubov placed 13th with a total score of 14-over par.
The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship highlights competitive golf programs within the scope of the most under-served and/or underrepresented Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) in the country. MSIs are defined by the U.S. Department of Education. The total field will be a maximum of 202 players, consisting of 30 teams and 52 individuals across all NCAA divisions.
Casper Nerpin advanced past the local qualifying round in his attempt to qualify for the field at the 124th U.S. Open in mid-June. Playing 18 holes at the Country Club of York in Pennsylvania, Nerpin carded six birdies and turned in a 3-under par 67 to tie for third in the field with the top four advancing to final qualifying.
Elliot Haas also competed in local qualifying for the U.S. Open, playing at The Club at P.B. Dye in Ijamsville, Maryland. With the top seven advancing to the next stage, he tied for third as he shot an even-par 70 with three birdies on his card.
Nerpin and Haas will both continue their quest to qualify for the U.S. Open on June 3 when they play in their respective final qualifying tournaments. Nerpin will compete at the Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, New Jersey while Haas will tee off at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland.
