NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's golf team earned some more hardware on Friday as CAA announced its postseason awards. Director of Golf Patty Post was named the CAA Coach of the Year while junior Alisa Khokhlova earned an All-CAA First Team selection and senior Christina Carroll was given a nod to the second team.
Khokhlova leads the squad with a 74.03 stroke average this season, which is tied for the fourth lowest in program history, and has recorded a team-high five top-10 finishes. She has one of the Hens' two individual wins this season as she won Delaware's home tournament, the Lady Blue Hen Invitational, back in October with a 2-under par. She was named the CAA Golfer of the Week for her performance. Khokhlova also had a top-10 finish at the CAA Championships, placing sixth at eight-over par.
This is Carroll's second-straight all-CAA selection as she was also named to the second team last season. She is second on the team this season in stroke average and currently ranks fourth in program history with a 75.29 career stroke average. The Bear, Delaware native has three top-10 finishes on the year, highlighted by a second-place finish at the White Sands Invitational where she carded a three-over par. At the CAA Championships, Carroll turned in a season-best round of 67 in the final round to help lead Delaware's comeback team victory.
Post earns her third CAA Coach of the Year award and first since 2017. She led the Blue Hens to their third conference championship last month and a top-100 national ranking. Delaware finished sixth or better as a team in eight of its 10 tournaments this season, including a runner-up finish at the 15-team Ironwood Invitational right before claiming the CAA title.
The Blue Hens are coming off their third CAA championship in program history, and first since 2017. Delaware erased a five-stroke deficit on the final day of the championship to win with a three-round score of 45-over par, just four strokes ahead of Charleston and UNCW. Junior Lilia Henkel sunk a long birdie putt on the final hole to clinch the team victory and then chipped in for birdie on the final playoff hole to claim the individual title to become the second Blue Hen to take the honor and the first since Andi Slane won consecutive CAA Championships in 2015 and 2016.
Delaware earned the CAA's automatic bid into the NCAA Championships and will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the Bermuda Run Regional, hosted by Wake Forest. Play will be held at Bermuda Run Country Club and the three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held May 6-8. The Blue Hens are the No. 10 seed in the 12-team regional and the low five teams will advance to the finals which will be held from May 17-22 in Carlsbad, California.
