NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball has announced the addition of transfer Grace Hausamann to the program for the 2024-25 year.
"Grace is a wonderful student-athlete who aligns with our program values," head coach Jen Steele said. "She is going to bring immediate depth to our roster, being able to play multiple positions in the infield and outfield. On the offensive side, she is a triple threat, left handed hitter, who is quick on the bases and gets excellent reads, enhancing our scoring chances."
Hausamann comes to Newark from Lafayette after playing two seasons for the Leopards. She has started in 46 of the 56 career games she has appeared over the last two years while earning starts as the designated player, second baseman, and shortstop and hitting at the top of the batting order.
Hausamann had four multi-hit games in 2024, including a stretch where she hit .416 over an eight-game span in March. Against Buffalo on Feb. 17, she went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. She also had hits against Power 5 opponents North Carolina and Maryland. In 2023 as a freshman, Hausamann went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored against CAA-opponent Drexel. She earned playing time in right and left field during her debut season as well. While at Lafayette, she has been a Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recipient.
Hausamann hails from South Riding, Va., where she attended Flint Hill High School. She garnered All-State First-Team and All-Conference First-Team recognition as a junior and served as a team captain as a senior. During her sophomore season, she hit .588. She also played club softball with the Tri-State Thunder under Missy Cutchall in West Virginia. Academically, she was named to the Headmaster's List in high school.
Delaware is coming off a season in which they set program records in single-season wins and conference wins, and tied their record for longest win streak at 13 and longest conference win streak at 10. The Blue Hens also led the CAA in batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, runs scored, doubles, and total bases. They pitched to a 1.98 ERA, finishing ninth in NCAA, and ranked 27th nationally in shutouts.
