LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three University of Delaware men's lacrosse seniors were named USILA Scholar All-Americans as JP Ward, Kevin Ellington, and Matt Montgomery earned the honor for the Blue & Gold, the publication announced Tuesday.
The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-America award recognizes those student-athletes who excelled on the field and in the classroom, having achieved a 3.0 or higher GPA and has been honored as an All-American or with an All-Conference award.
Ward, an Owings Mills, Md. native had a spectacular year for the Blue Hens as the senior scored 26 goals and tallied 33 helpers for a team-high 59 points. Ward became just the third Delaware men's lacrosse player in program history to reach 100-career goals and 100-career assists. His historic season on the field earned him First Team All-CAA and USILA All-America Honorable Mention. Ward completed his bachelor's degree in finance.
Ellington, a Bel Air, Md. native had a breakout campaign for the Blue Hens as the senior was one of the best goaltenders in the nation. Ellington's .590 save percentage was tops in the CAA and tied for second in the country. Ellington was the only goalkeeper in the nation in the top-10 in save percentage (.590), saves per game (13.36), and goals against average (9.60). The stopgap was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week in three straight weeks in 2024. Ellington capped off the season with the CAA Defensive Player of the Year award and joined Ward as a First Team All-CAA honoree. Ellington's 2024 campaign garnered him both USILA and USA Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention. In the classroom, Ellington completed his bachelor's in business administration.
Montgomery, a West Chester, Pa. native, became a first-time All-CAA recipient in 2024 as the defenseman earned Second-Team All-CAA for the Hens. Montgomery was a mainstay in the Delaware defense this season as he started all 14 games for the Hens. The 6-2 senior scooped 15 ground balls and caused three turnovers, turning the ball over himself just three times. Montgomery completed a bachelor's degree in finance this past spring.
