RICHMOND, Va. -Â The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) proudly announced the 20 recipients of the prestigious CAA Leadership and Sport Excellence Award for the 2023-24 academic year Thursday morning. Among the honorees, senior distance runner Carolyn Coletti has been recognized as the award recipient for women's track & field. The most recent Blue Hen to receive this prestigious award was alumna Jessica Pidgeon, who was honored in 2023 for her achievements while she was part of the women's cross country program.
Coletti, a dedicated four-year member of the track & field program, achieved a 3.992 GPA while earning her degree in Environmental Studies. A three-time CAA Academic Honor Roll recipient, she actively engaged in numerous community service activities during her time at Delaware. These included serving as the chief arranger and member of CresHENdo Acappella (an on-campus acappella group), co-leading a Bible study for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and acting as President and co-founder of Honors Varsity Student-Athletes (HVSA). Additionally, Coletti worked as a HENS mentor for incoming freshman student-athletes.Â
On the track, the Ramsey, N.J. native served as a team captain and competed in 30 races throughout her career in the Blue & Gold uniform. This season's highlights include:
Indoor Season
The award mimics the Chuck Boone Leadership Award in football and the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award in men's and women's basketball. One student-athlete, who represents the highest standards of teamwork, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship in his or her academic and athletic achievements, was selected in each of the other 20 sports sponsored by the conference. After evaluating the nominees, the CAA's Faculty Athletic Representatives voted on the winners.
