NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball has announced the addition of transfer Emma Denison to the program for the 2024-25 year.
"Emma is going to round out our pitching rotation really nicely," head coach Jen Steele said. "She has tremendous upside with her long levers and gives opposing hitters a much different look than the rest of our staff. I'm excited to get her in the bullpen and start working!"
Denison arrives to Delaware from Bowling Green, playing one season for the Falcons. She pitched in 45.2 innings and led the team in ERA, making eight starts while pitching in 20 games and striking out 24 hitters.
Denison made her debut against Morehead State on March 7, pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. She then made her first career start on March 10, pitching into the sixth inning against Michigan. Against Notre Dame, another Power 5 opponent, on March 12, she allowed just one earned run in four innings. Denison also had scoreless relief appearances in back-to-back days against Buffalo with three strikeouts in three total innings. Her first win came against Detroit Mercy on March 30, as she pitched three innings and allowed just one run with no walks. She pitched in consecutive games and struck out five in 5.2 innings during the series against Akron, making one start in the process.
Denison hails from South Bend, Ind., where she attended Edwardsburg High School. As a two-way player, she led the Eddies to a three-year varsity record of 79-25. She hit .504 with a .769 slugging percentage as a senior, hitting seven homers and 48 RBIs while going 13-3 with 151 strikeouts and a 1.19 ERA in the circle as the team went 30-8. She was named to the All-Wolverine Conference Team in all three seasons and was a two-time selection to both the all-district and all-region teams. She also owns schools records for most no-hitters and shutouts in a season, and most perfect games in a season and a career Her team won conference titles in each of her last two seasons, and district crowns in both her sophomore and senior years.
Delaware is coming off a season in which they set program records in single-season wins and conference wins, and tied their record for longest win streak at 13 and longest conference win streak at 10. The Blue Hens also led the CAA in batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, runs scored, doubles, and total bases. They pitched to a 1.98 ERA, finishing ninth in NCAA, and ranked 27th nationally in shutouts.
