PISCATAWAY, N.J. – A hat trick from Mikey Johnson allowed the University of Delaware men's soccer team to take home its second win against Rutgers in as many seasons on Monday evening with a 4-1 decision. After this B1G win, the Hens move to 2-0-0 to start the season.

ON THE RECORD
"I'm so pleased for the boys tonight, they deserve to enjoy this one," head coach Tommy McMenemy said. "Our passing and movement was much sharper than the last game, and I was delighted with how we were able to find the spare man time and again against a very good team. Our execution wasn't quite right in the first half, but was so much better in the second. Mikey, Justin, and Jaydon made a huge contribution off the bench and showed just how much of a squad game this is. Mikey works so hard to improve his game, and it made my night to see how happy the whole squad was when he scored his goals."

"What an unbelievable team performance," Johnson said. "The result was a testament to our team's resilience and determination throughout the whole 90 minutes. I could not be more proud to be part of this team."

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Johnson scored a hat trick in the second-half, adding himself to the program record book as the 14th in program history.
Jan Schroeder, Anthony Rowan, Jaydon Fuller and Justin Ruth all tallied assists.
Adam Vik held strong defensively with six saves in his 90 minutes to advance to 2-0-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hens and Knights were neck-and-neck for the majority of the first half, with Rutgers pulling out a goal in the 36th minute.
The second half was quickly halted due to a weather delay, but soon picked back up with Johnson's first goal in the 52nd minute with the assist from Ruth.
Johnson then tallied two more goals with assists by Rowan and Fuller.
Ruth cleaned up the match with a goal in the 69th minute assisted by a Schroeder corner kick.

GAME NOTES

This match is the fifth played between Rutgers & Delaware and the second consecutive win for the Hens.
Graduate transfer Anthony Rowan made his Blue Hen debut.
Johnson's hat trick was the first since Carlos Fernandez (9/9/23) and second in 20 years (Sobhan Tadjalli 9/15/14).
