Trio of Blue Hens Taken in NLL Draft

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's lacrosse's Matt Acchione, JP Ward, and Cam Acchione were selected in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) draft on Sunday. Delaware had was tied for a league-high three draft picks, matching a program high in 2022.
Matt Acchione was selected 16th overall to conclude the first round by the Saskatchewan Rush. Over his four-year career in Newark, he appeared in 34 games, making 18 starts. The Barrie, Ontario native accumulated 36 points on 25 goals and 11 assists. His six man-up goals in 2024 tied him for 16th best in the nation.
Ward was picked 28th overall pick by the Albany Firewolves in the second round. Ward had a highly decorated career including a First Team All-CAA appearance in three out of his four collegiate seasons. He played four seasons for the Hens, tallying 110 goals and 112 assists in 62 games. Last season, he landed on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
Cam Acchione was picked 39th overall by the San Diego Seals in the third round. He recorded 75 goals and 32 assists in 62 games for Delaware during his collegiate career.

The NLL is a professional men's lacrosse box league with 15 teams across the United States and Canada. The indoor league begins in December and ends in April. The draft is comprised of six rounds and 86 picks total.
