LEWISBURG, Pa. – It took an extra 6:42 of overtime action, but the University of Delaware field hockey team prevailed 1-0 over Bucknell University Friday night behind stellar defense and the golden goal from graduate transfer Lulu Fulton.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS

Cecile van Eijck tallied six saves in her first career shutout with the Hens.
Genevieve Johnson totaled six shots with half on frame.
Rachael Whitehead recorded three shots with two on frame while Fulton tallied two.
Four other Blue Hens recorded one shot each

HOW IT HAPPENED

Friday's game began with a fast-paced first quarter of action, yielding just one shot for the Blue Hens, but after the first 15:00, the match remained scoreless.
In the second, the two squads combined for eight shots with three on frame, but after thirty minutes, neither team could find the back of the cage, sending the match scoreless into the break.
Bucknell's offense came to life in the third as the Bison tallied five shots with three on frame while their defense held Delaware to zero shots for the quarter.
In the fourth, Delaware had a multitude of chances to score with eight total shots and was awarded four penalty corners, but still could not find the back of the Bison's cage. Then in the first overtime period, freshman Kate Janssen took the ball up the field, passed to sophomore Kate Fiest in the circle who found a newly subbed in Fulton who crossed in front of the Bucknell keeper to find the open cage for the game-winning goal.
