HAMPTON, Va. – University of Delaware men's basketball couldn't overcome an 18-point deficit to Hampton Saturday afternoon and fell to the Pirates 83-77. The Blue Hens drop to 9-8, 2-2 CAA and HU moves to 9-8, 2-3 CAA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

John Camden led all scorers with 20 points. He added five assists and two rebounds.
Cavan Reilly scored 18 points on an 8-of-11 outing.
Izaiah Pasha (11), Erik Timko (11), and Niels Lane (10) all scored in double figures.
Trent Middleton Jr. snagged a career-best three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Hampton scored the opening bucket, Delaware ripped off a 6-0 run to pull ahead 6-3. The Pirates went ahead prior to a Timko triple to knot things at nine apiece at the first break. A 14-4 margin allowed Hampton to open a 23-13 lead with 11:29 remaining in the opening frame. The home team went ahead by as many as 12 before the Hens made it a four-point game with 8:15 left. The Pirates scored seven unanswered to force a UD timeout with the HU up 35-24. Hampton would take a 45-35 lead into the break.
After falling behind by as many as 18 in the second half, Delaware was able to cut it to five using 12-straight points over 1:48 for a 64-59 game with 9:04 left. Hampton quickly pushed it back to a double-digit lead 73-62, using a 9-3 advantage over 2:46. The Blue & Gold took a 6-0 run into the final media stoppage at 3:48 to trail 73-66. UD held Hampton scoreless for a 2:37 stretch. Delaware would shrink it to five once more but couldn't overcome anything further.

GAME NOTES

UD drops to 0-6 when trailing at the half this season.
Timko needs four points to hit 2,000 for his career.
