NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware Director of Golf Patty Post has announced the upcoming spring schedule for the women's golf team. The Fightin' Blue Hens will compete in five tournaments as they prepare for their first Conference USA Championship in April.
The full schedule can be seen here.
For the fifth-consecutive year, Delaware will open the spring schedule at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational (Feb. 20-22), hosted by Mercer University. The tournament will be played Great Waters Golf Club in Greensboro, Georgia. Last spring, the Blue Hens carded 16 birdies on Sunday to climb the team standings and finish seventh.
A busy March will begin with a trip to the Daniel Island Invitational (March 2-3), hosted by the College of Charleston. The two-day, three-round event will be held at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, South Carolina.
The following week, the squad will travel to Texas for the Riverbend Intercollegiate (March 9-10), hosted by Houston Christian University. The Hens will play 54 holes over two days at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas.
After a week off, the Blue & Gold will head to the Volunteer State for The Nashville Invitational (March 23-24), hosted by Lipscomb University. The tournament will be played at Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tennessee.
The Blue Hens will close out March when they host Navy (March 28) for a day of match play at DuPont Country Club in Wilmington. The two programs met last spring in Annapolis with UD coming away with a 4-3 victory as the Blue Hens won three of the seven matches and tied two others.
Delaware will close out the regular season at the Terps Invitational (April 5-6), hosted by the University of Maryland. Play will be held at the University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park, Maryland. Last year, the Blue Hens closed out the season with a fifth-place finish at the same event behind an individual victory by Alisa Khokhlova who carded a 2-under par for the tournament.
The Blue & Gold will compete in its first-ever Conference USA Women's Golf Championship (April 20-22) at Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco, Texas.
Delaware is coming off a strong fall campaign that saw the squad register a team victory and two runner-up finishes in five tournaments. The Blue Hens placed second in back-to-back events at the Badger Invitational and the Nittany Lion Invitational before closing out the fall by defending its title at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational. Rhianna Gooneratne placed second at UD's home event and had three top-10 finishes in her first five collegiate tournaments.
