McCurry’s Five Goals Leads Men’s Lacrosse Over High Point 11-6

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team put itself back into the win column with a strong 11-6 victory over High Point on Friday night at Delaware Stadium. With the win, the Blue Hens improve to 3-1 overall, while the Panthers fall to 2-3.

The Blue Hens will head out on the road for their next two games, starting with a matchup at Maryland on Saturday, March 8. Faceoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Plus.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- John McCurry tied a career-high with five goals.
- Bennett Parmer added a pair of goals on two shots.
- Jason Kolar had a goal and two assists.
- Kevin Ellington made 14 saves in the cage.
- OJ Morris won 8-of-10 faceoffs and grabbed a team-high six ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After High Point opened the scoring, Kolar tied the game midway through the first quarter, evening things with 8:34 on the clock.
- McCurry scored his first of the game with 1:36 left in the first quarter and Parmer added a tally with six seconds left to give UD a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.
- Parmer scored again less than a minute into the second quarter to extend the lead to 4-1.
- The Panthers cut into the lead, but McCurry had a quick answer with 7:17 left in the second quarter to make it 5-2.
- Ryder Villani and Tyler Owings found the back of the net in the final 90 seconds to give the Blue Hens a 7-2 lead at the midway point.
- High Point scored three goals in the third quarter, but McCurry again had an answer as Delaware took an 8-5 lead into the final frame.
- McCurry and Finn Morgan scored just 42 seconds apart early in the fourth, the latter coming on a nifty behind-the-back finish, to extend the advantage to 10-5.
- High Point scored one more time, but McCurry provided the exclamation point with 1:40 left to seal the victory.
GAME NOTES
- Delaware is now 3-1 all-time against High Point.
