Parmer Tallies Four Goals as Men’s Lacrosse Upsets #18/19/18 Utah, 13-12

NEWARK, Del. – In his first-collegiate game, Bennett Parmer scored four goals, including the game-winner with under a minute to play in the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team's 13-12 upset of the #18/19/18 Utah Utes. The Blue Hens start the season off 1-0, while the Utes fall to 1-1.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Parmer scored his first-career hat-trick en route to four goals in his collegiate debut.
- Brendan Powers, Jason Kolar, and John McCurry each added two goals.
- Cory Capri and Jack Kolbe potted their first goal in a Delaware uniform.
- Patrick Gillin tallied his first-career goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Utah netted the first two goals of the contest before Parmer tallied to cut it to 2-1. UD trailed 3-1 after one.
- After the Utes scored early in the second, three straight goals by UD's Powers, Gillin, and Parmer evened the game at four with 8:09 to play in the first half. The home team took a 7-5 advantage into the locker room after striking for multiple man-up goals to end the half.
- Parmer scored just eight seconds into the third quarter for the hat-trick, cutting it to 7-6. Kolar and Capri made it three-unanswered for the Hens to give the Blue & Gold their first lead of the game at 8-7. Kolbe potted a man-up goal with 4:09 to go in the third, putting the lead back up to one for the Hens. Delaware took a 9-8 advantage into the final frame.
- With 5:52 to play, the game sat even at 10 before the Hens took the lead thanks to a goal from McCurry.The teams traded goals, finding a stalemate with 1:48 to go in regulation. With 54 seconds to play, Parmer split a double team and scored a man-down goal to give the Hens a 13-12 lead.
GAME NOTES
- Ben DeLuca has now passed Mickey Heinecken for sole possession of second place in program history for most wins as a head coach with 66.
- The result marked the first ranked win since May 5, 2022 over #2 Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament.
- Ten players made their first appearance in a Blue Hen uniform: Duncan Barnes, Aiden Bodonyi, Capri, Drew Duncan, Nathan Furgeson, Lange Gaspar, Kolbe, Parmer, Liam Powell, and Jackson Shields.
- Seven players made their collegiate debuts: Barnes, Bodonyi, Duncan, Furgeson, Gaspar, Parmer, and Powell.
