History Continues! Men’s Basketball Declaws Towson to Reach CAA Championship Game for Second Time in Four Years

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Continuing its historic run, the 12th-seeded University of Delaware men's basketball team (16-19) declawed top-seeded Towson 82-72 to become the first-ever double-digit seed in CAA Tournament history to reach the championship game. The Blue Hens will take on second-seeded UNCW n on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in their second championship game in four years.

Delaware will take on the winner of second-seeded UNCW vs. third-seeded Charleston on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. with the game airing nationally on CBS Sports Network.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware shot a blistering 55.1 percent from the floor, including 45.0 percent from long range – both besting the Tigers.
- Erik Timko led the Hens with 15 points, including his 300th three pointer of his career. He also snagged six rebounds.
- Niels Lane scored 14 with a pair of massive dunks and eight rebounds.
- Trent Middleton Jr. scored 14 points with a 7-of-8 showing at the free throw line.
- John Camden and Izaiah Pasha each tallied 13 points.
- Cavan Reilly rounded out the cohort with 11 points and a game-high five assists.
- Seven ties and 10 lead changes in the first half ended with the Hens scoring the final seven points to go into the half with a 36-32 lead.
- After the opening bucket of the second frame by the top seed, Delaware answered with an 8-0 run over 1:45 to force a timeout by Towson with UD ahead 44-34 and 17:49 left. The Tigers used an 8-2 margin to pull the game within seven at the under-12 break, 49-42. UD went ahead by as many as 15 with 4:11 remaining. Towson clawed within five with 43 seconds left, but couldn't surpass the deficit.
- Delaware moves to 15-4 when leading at the half this season.
- UD is the first team to ever win four games in the same CAA Tournament.
- The Blue & Gold are the fifth team in CAA Tournament history to have six players score in double figures.
- With the win, Martin Ingelsby is tied for fifth all-time in CAA Tournament history with Lefty Driesell and Blaine Taylor at 13 wins. He is 13-7 in such tournaments.
- With a win tomorrow night, Delaware would join 2011 UConn (national champions) and 2024 NC State (Final Four team) as the only teams ever to win five games in five days to win a conference title.
- Tuesday will be the ninth conference championship game appearance (6-2 record).
