3/24/2025 1:00:00 PM | Softball
Shaffer hit .438/.591/1.375 with five home runs, five walks, and six runs scored. She hit two home runs in game two of a doubleheader against Rider on Tuesday and then hit two on the road against Hofstra, becoming the first Delaware player since at least 2008 with two consecutive multi-home run games. She also went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, two runs scored, and a walk against Hofstra on Sunday, with her home run going for her 100th career hit. This is Shaffer's second CAA Player of the Week honor this season, as she also received the award during the season's opening weekend.Â
Shaffer is in the midst of a career year, and is on pace to put together one of the best offensive seasons in program history. She is hitting .381/.475/.762 with nine home runs, 23 RBIs, and 13 walks. She leads the conference in home runs, total bases, slugging percentage, and OPS and is top 10 in the league in runs scored, hits, RBIs, walks, and on base percentage. Her nine home runs are already tied for sixth most in a season in program history and most since Brooke Glanden hit nine in 2022. Shaffer is also up to 14 career home runs, tied with Gina Knutson for seventh most in program history.Â
Delaware has earned a CAA Weekly Honor in every week it has played in, and has had five players honored so far this season (Shaffer and Billie Kerwood - Feb. 11, Gianna Costaro - Feb. 25, Josie Crossman - March 4, Morgan Hess - March 11, Kerwood - March 18). Its seven honors are most in the conference and two more than any other team. Delaware is back in action on Wednesday with a road game against Big 10 opponent Maryland. UD will return home for a weekend series against Elon.Â
