NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware women's lacrosse assistant coach Kara Nakrasius will be joining the Philippines National Team in preparation for the 2026 World Championships, the organization announced Thursday. She will remain in her role with Delaware while spending the offseason training with the Philippines National Team.
"I am extremely grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity," Nakrasius said. "I can't wait to bring my coaching experience at the collegiate level to the world stage. A big thank you to Amy Altig for being a great mentor & allowing me to accept this opportunity! A SPECIAL thank you to Steph Lazo for giving me this opportunity & being able to coach on the same sideline again. Can't wait to work with the Philippines staff!"
Nakrasius will join former Blue Hens' associate head coach, Steph Lazo, who serves as the head coach of the national team.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Kara to our team and family!," Lazo said. "She will be assisting with defense and overseeing our draw unit. Kara brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, both in her playing and coaching careers, and we are certain she will make an immediate impact. We can't wait for her to hit the ground running with our team in May as we prepare to compete in the World Championships hosted in Tokyo, Japan in 2026!"
The third-year assistant leads the Hens defensive operations, with the group ranking fourth in the nation in caused turnovers per game. UD has consistently been in the top five in that category this season.
"We are thrilled for Kara to be named to the Philippines National Team staff," Delaware head coach Amy Altig said. "Her incredible knowledge of the defense and draw will be a huge asset for Steph and the rest of her staff. Kara works tirelessly to make sure all of her athletes are prepared to the fullest, constantly cared for, and everyone around her is impacted immensely. I know our program has gotten exponentially better with Kara here so I know she will help the Philippines program reach its goals as well."
Nakrasius and the Hens return to action on Sunday at Monmouth.
