NEWARK, Del. – Mark Bieda, a 2022 University of Delaware men's lacrosse alumnus and former assistant coach, will return to Newark as an assistant coach, head coach Ben DeLuca announced Tuesday.
"We are excited to welcome Mark Bieda back to his alma mater and the Delaware men's lacrosse program," DeLuca said. "Mark's return as an assistant coach is a testament to the values and leadership that define our storied program. As a two-time team captain, a standout midfielder, and a member of our coaching staff, Mark has exemplified the character, dedication and work ethic that is the foundation of our program. His experience playing and coaching at the highest levels, coupled with his deep understanding of our culture, will be invaluable to our program as we continue to strive for sustained success and begin our new journey competing in the Atlantic 10 Conference."
Bieda returns to the 302 after spending the 2025 season as offensive coordinator with the Marquette Golden Eagles. Under Bieda, the Marquette man-up offense ranked second in the nation, going .556 with the extra man.
"I'm incredibly honored to be coming back to the University of Delaware and couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity," Bieda said. "I want to thank Jordan Skolnick and Coach DeLuca for bringing me back as well as their dedication to the men's lacrosse program. I also want to thank Coach Rewkowksi for everything that he has done for the program and am humbled to follow in his footsteps. I'm extremely excited to be back for this next chapter of Delaware men's lacrosse as we head into the Atlantic 10 and get back to work with our student-athletes."
Bieda joined the Golden Eagles after one season as an assistant coach at Delaware in 2024, under DeLuca. UD boasted the nation's No. 4 man-up offense, scoring at a .528 clip with the extra man, and turned the ball over at the second-lowest rate in the country.
In addition to assisting offensive coordinator Matt Rewkowski with the man-up unit, Bieda worked on the defensive side with goalie Kevin Ellington, who ranked third nationally in save percentage (.590) and was fifth in NCAA Division I with 13.36 saves per game. The Blue Hens, who allowed just 9.43 goals per game (fifth nationally), went 9-5 overall and 6-1 in Coastal Athletic Association play before falling to Towson in the CAA title game.
Prior to his first stint as a coach at Delaware, Bieda served alongside his brother, Scott, at Michigan as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2023 campaign. While with the Wolverines, Bieda worked with faceoff and wing players on a unit that ended the season eighth nationally in faceoff win percentage, while faceoff specialist Justin Wietfeldt earned USILA Third Team All-America honors. Michigan captured its first Big 10 Conference title and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time that season.
Bieda was a midfielder for four seasons with the Blue Hens from 2018-22 and was a two-time team captain. He helped UD to a CAA championship in 2022 and a run to the NCAA quarterfinals, where it fell to NCAA runner-up Cornell. In 41 career games at Delaware, Bieda posted 79 points on 36 goals and 43 assists. He was a Second Team All-CAA selection and earned a spot in the 2022 USILA Senior All-Star Game.
A native of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Bieda graduated from Delaware in May 2022 with a bachelor's degree in economics and was a four-year member of the CAA Academic Honor Roll.
