NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball has announced the hiring of Jill Moore as assistant Coach, effective on August 1, 2025.Â
"I'm thrilled to welcome Jill to our program," head coach Jen Steele said. "We've been fortunate to have veteran coaches leading our team the past seven seasons and her hiring allows us that same continuity. Jill brings a wealth of experience across multiple levels of the game, has a great softball IQ, and is a good technical skills coach. Furthermore, I've known her for many years and she is an exceptional person; she will be a great mentor for our student-athletes and add tremendous value to our athletics department. I can't wait to welcome Jill, her husband Jeff, and their two children to Newark."
Dorian Shaw will shift to a new role in the athletic department as Assistant Athletic Director for Talent, Character, and Culture Development. Shaw's Blue Hens Captains Academy won the 2025 N4A Model Practices Award for Student-Athlete Development over this summer.
"I'm incredibly grateful for everything Dorian has brought to our softball program," Steele said. "She is not only an outstanding coach, but also a trusted mentor, and someone who has poured into our student-athletes. At the same time, I couldn't be prouder of her as she takes this next step in her professional journey. Moving into administration has long been a goal of hers, and I'm thankful to be part of a department that recognizes and values the impact she makes. While we'll certainly miss having Dorian in the dugout each day, I'm excited that she will continue to support our program in this next chapter."
Moore comes to Newark after spending three historic seasons as the head coach at Division III Maryville College, where she went 85-48 and 34-14 in CCS play and led the program to an at-large NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024. Under Moore's guidance, Maryville had 10 All-Conference honorees and six All-Region selections. In 2024, Maryville set a program record for wins with 35, won the CCS Tournament, and were ranked 21st nationally by the NFCA. Maryville had also reached the conference championship game in 2023, Moore's first season. In 2025, Maryville finished third in the conference, but rallied to win 13 of its last 16 regular season games and went 3-2 in the conference tournament before falling in the semifinals. Moore also managed academic programs, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, and travel - including managing the construction of a $100,000 facility project to enhance the program's batting cages. Â
Before Maryville, Moore was a coach at Lynn University from 2012-2021. She served as head coach for her final three years with the program after having been an assistant. Four athletes earned All-Conference honors during her tenure as head coach. She also has made stops at UMBC and Saint Francis to begin her coaching career.Â
As a player, Moore was a two-time All-Northeast Conference catcher at Robert Morris and hit .345 in her four-year career. She helped the Colonials to their first-ever NCAA Regional Appearance in 2005 while also claiming the NEC Regular Season and Tournament titles. She graduated from Robert Morris with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and then earned her master's in Education from St. Francis.Â
Delaware had a historic season in 2025 that led to its third CAA Regular Season Championship in four seasons. The Blue Hens broke numerous program records during the year including home runs, doubles, strikeouts, conference wins, consecutive conference wins, run-rule victories, consecutive run-rule victories, and postseason honors in a season. The 23 conference wins were the most ever by a CAA team. Delaware is one of eight Division I teams with at least 20 conference wins in the last two seasons. UD will compete as a member of Conference USA starting in 2026.Â
