Men’s Golf, Areephun Cruise to Titles at Blue Hen Intercollegiate

WILMINGTON, Del. – The University of Delaware men's golf team defended its home turf with a convincing 29-stroke victory, while Arsit Areephun collected his first-career individual victory at the Blue Hen Intercollegiate. The Fightin' Blue Hens recorded a 4-under par 284 in the second round to pull away, finishing at 3-under par 861 over the 54 holes. The tournament was played at the par-72, 7,007-yard White Clay Creek Country Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- All five members of Delaware's scoring team finished in the top 20 of the individual standings, totaling 55 birdies and an eagle. The Blue Hens sat at 4-under par as a team and held a 24-stroke lead after Monday's 36 holes.
- Four other Blue Hens played as individuals and also all finished in the top 20. They combined for 36 birdies and had three rounds under par.
- Areephun pulled away on Monday with rounds of 68 and 69 to sit at 7-under par after 36 holes. He had six birdies over the first 18 holes, including four-consecutive holes, and 13 for the tournament. The junior carded an even-par 72 on Tuesday to clinch his first victory.
- Jeffrey Homer was also under par in both of Monday's rounds, turning in scores of 71 and 69. He totaled 15 birdies over the 54 holes, including six in the second round.
- Iampongsai recorded rounds of even-par 72 over the first and final 18 holes, finishing with 11 birdies and an eagle overall.
- Vuradi and Xin combined for 16 total birdies with nine and seven, respectively.
- Wu sank six of his 12 total birdies in the final round to record a 3-under par 69 and climb up into the top five.
- Matthew Homer had eight birdies and opened the tournament with a 1-under par 71.
- Itzoe made his collegiate debut and recorded 11 birdies over the 54 holes.
- Najburg used a 1-under par 71 on Tuesday to shoot up the standings into the top 20.
OF NOTE
- The individual win was Areephun's first collegiate victory. It was his second top-10 finish to start the season and 10th of his career.
- Areephun became the 34th individual winner in UD history, and the first since Roberto Nieves won the Wildcat Fall Invitational during the 2020-21 season.
- The team victory was the 31st team tournament title in program history.
- The Blue Hen Intercollegiate was Delaware's first home tournament since college golf moved to multiple-team events.
UP NEXT
The Blue Hens will take a couple of weeks off before returning to action at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational, hosted by West Virgina University. The two-day, three-round tournament will held Sep 29-30.
