Women’s Golf Rallies to Runner-Up Finish at Nittany Lion Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The University of Delaware women's golf team carded a tournament-low 2-under par over the final 18 holes to finish in second place at the Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State. The Fightin' Blue Hens turned in a three-round score of 15-over par 879 to place second in the 16-team field, just one stroke behind the host Nittany Lions. Play was held at par-72, 6,363-yard Penn State Blue Course.

Delaware will return to action when it travels back out to the Midwest for the Marilynn Smith Invitational, hosted by the University of Kansas. The two-day, three-round tournament will be held Oct. 6-7 at the Lawrence Country Club in Lawrence, Kansas.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware was tied for fourth after 36 holes but was the only team under par during Tuesday's final round, moving up into second and finishing just one stroke off the lead. In all, the seven Blue Hens carded 42 birdies over the three rounds.
- Dunigan registered her second-straight top-10 finish as she finished at 1-over par for the tournament. She carded five birdies over the 54 holes and was even par in both the first and third rounds.
- Gooneratne finished just outside the top 10 as she turned in an even-par 72 in Monday's second round and had a team-high nine total birdies for the tournament.
- Roberts climbed 24 spots in the individual standings on Tuesday, posting a 4-under par 68. She finished with eight total birdies over the three rounds, including five on Tuesday and four over final five holes.
- Kim and Sawant each carded six birdies for the tournament.
OF NOTE
- Delaware's score of 286 in Tuesday's final round is tied for the eighth-best single team round in program history. The Blue Hens also carded a 286 during the first round of last year's Nittany Lion Invitational.
