NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team defeats The University of Pennsylvania, who is receiving votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Association, 1-0 at Grant Stadium on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Fightin' Blue Hens overall record becomes 5-0-0, marking the best start since 2014.
"Tonight was the epitome of a full squad victory, against a very good team," head coach Tommy McMenemy said. "Every player in the squad competes day in and day out to drive the level up, and it builds towards performances like tonight against a top team. I felt it was a complete performance and we had to execute every phase of the game at a high level, from our build-out to set-pieces to low block defending. Freddy's goal was worthy of winning any game, and the entire team worked for that shutout! Now we have to get locked in for a tricky spell on the road to keep things going."
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Freddy Jeffreys scored an unassisted goal for the hens.
- This was Jeffreys' first career goal.
- JoJo Elliott Jr. collected his fifth career start and fourth shutout with five saves on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 25th minute of play, Jeffreys scored off of a free kick that hit the right post before finding the back of the net.
- Elliott made five saves to keep the Hen's undefeated.
