Ayeni, Theres-Gruber Earn Podium Finishes at Conference USA Indoor Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Throws athlete Olamide Ayeni and distance runner Marie-Theres Gruber earned podium finishes as the University of Delaware track & field team competed at the Conference USA Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday Feb. 27-28.

PODIUM FINISHERS

Ayeni placed third overall in the shot put after a 14.56-meter throw, which came in the final attempt of the finals. She became the first Fightin' Blue Hens athlete to earn a podium finish as a member of CUSA.
Gruber finished third overall in the 3,000-meters after a run of 9:38.29. In the fall, she was second overall at the CUSA Cross Country Championships. The time ranks third overall in program history.

POINT SCORERS

On the first day of the championships, Isabelle Kapoor finished eighth in the pentathlon with 3,995 points. The point total ranks third in program history.
Gruber finished fourth in the 5,000-meters with a time of 16:43.35.
The Distance Medley Relay team of Ella Peterson, Lauren Leath, Kadence Dumas, and Leah Clear were sixth at 11:54.51.
On day two, Dumas and Leath both finished sixth overall in the 800-meters (2:10.46), and 400-meters (55.23 seconds), respectively.

TOP FINISHERS

The Blue Hens top finishers were Eva Denis in the 60-meters (7.78 seconds), Sara Penuela (25.23 seconds), Leah Clear in the one-mile (4:57.49), Rachel Kuehl in the long jump (5.59 meters), and Maya Giordano in the weight throw (15.75 meters).

Outdoor season will start the Phoenix Opener, hosted by Elon, on Friday, March 13.
