NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball defeated Delaware State, 9-0, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The victory snapped UD's five-game losing streak and gave Delaware eight straight wins over the Hornets.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Sydney Shaffer hit her 31st home run of the season as part of a 2-for-3, two-RBI day.
Grace Hausamann had a two-run triple and a bases-loaded walk.
Katie Scheivert went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Caylin Blazys had a pinch-hit RBI triple.
Kristen Luzon and Ellie Mulligan each had pinch-hit singles. Luzon had an RBI and Mulligan scored a run.
Morgan Chambers had a hit in her only official at bat and scored two runs.
Sorella Gallucci scored two runs and walked once.
Kylie Wilkerson allowed just one baserunner in four shutout innings with two strikeouts.
Karli Challburg pitched a 1-2-3 final inning with a strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Shaffer hit a solo home run to start the scoring in the bottom of the first inning.
Delaware scored four two-out runs in the second inning. After a walk from Bridget Chapman and a single by Chambers, Hausamann tripled to center field to bring both home. Scheivert singled her in, stole second, and then scored on Shaffer's second RBI hit to put UD up 5-0.
Diamond and Gallucci walked and Chambers was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hausamann walked for her third RBI of the night, Scheivert had a second RBI single, and Luzon had a pinch-hit RBI single to give Delaware an 8-0 lead.
Blazys came off the bench with an RBI triple to put Delaware ahead 9-0.
Wilkerson pitched perfect innings in the first, second, and third and allowed her first baserunner on a hit in the fourth inning with two outs.
Challburg pitched a 1-2-3 fifth with a strikeout to end the game.

GAME NOTES

Scheivert recorded her 183rd career hit, one shy of tying Brittney Mendoza for eighth all-time.
Scheivert also had her 51st career multi-hit game, most among active Delaware players.
Shaffer's home run was her 31st of her career. She is three shy of tying Mariah Kondravy for third all-time with 34.
Shaffer also drove in her 122nd career RBI, tied with Brooke Glanden for fourth all-time.
Blazys' triple was the first extra-base hit of her career and her RBI was the first of her career.
Chambers has hits in three of her last four games played and is 4-for-9 over that stretch.
Hausamann's triple was the second of her career and first since Feb. 17, 2024 against Buffalo while she was a member of Lafayette. The three RBIs were also a career high.
Wilkerson's scoreless start was the third of her career and first of the season.
Delaware's run-rule victory was the 48th under Jen Steele and the third against Delaware State.
Delaware improved to 24-6 in midweek games at home under Jen Steele and 31-10 overall.
This was Delaware's fourth shutout win of the season and 67th under Jen Steele.
Delaware has pitched four consecutive shutouts against Delaware State dating back to 2024. UD has outscored the Hornets 30-0 in the four games.
Delaware entered the game with just one triple on the season before hitting two tonight. Delaware last had a multi-triple game a year to the day against Rider - March 18 of last season.

Softball season ticket deposits are available now. Season ticket packages and individual game tickets will go on sale later this winter.

Individual ticket prices will be $10 per game and $5 for youth (ages 3-12). Season ticket packages will be available at 50 percent off the single-game rate. There will also be group rates, incentives, and additional gameday experience opportunities. All seating will be general admission at Delaware Softball Diamond.

UD students will continue to receive free tickets to all home softball games.
