Softball Takes Series Against Missouri State With 5-2 Win

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Sydney Shaffer was 1-for-2 with a two-run home run.Â
- Bridget Chapman drove in three runs on a double.Â
- Allie Nankivell went 1-for-3 with a run scored.Â
- Kristen Luzon and Gianna Costaro both went 1-for-2. Costaro also drew a walk.Â
- Claire Woods pitched 5.2Â innings and allowed just two hits and two runs to earn the win.Â
- Josie Crossman earned the save by recording the final four outs, striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Woods allowed just one hit in the first two innings.Â
- In the bottom of the second, Luzon doubled, Costaro singled, and Maddie Diamond walked to load the bases. Chapman then hit a double down the left field line to score all three runners to put Delaware ahead early.Â
- Woods followed with a 1-2-3 in the top of the third with a strikeout.
- Nankivell singled to lead off the bottom half of the third. Shaffer then homered to dead center field to put UD ahead 5-0. Â
- Woods pitched 1-2-3 innings in both the fourth and fifth innings.Â
- Missouri State scored two runs in the sixth, but Crossman entered with a runner on third and two outs and coaxed a flyout to retire the side.Â
- Crossman struck out two in the top of the seventh to close out the win and the series.Â
GAME NOTES
- Delaware improved to 18-4-1 in conference home series under Jen Steele and has won every home series since the start of the 2025 season (six).Â
- Shaffer hit her eighth home run of the season and second in four games. She now has 299 career total bases, 125 RBIs, and 70 extra-base hits.
- Chapman recorded her first career multi-RBI game.Â
- Nankivell has scored a run in three consecutive games, all while batting leadoff for the first time in her career..Â
- Luzon recorded a hit in all three of her starts this week, going 4-for-8 with a home run and a double in the series.Â
- Woods' 5.2 innings pitched marked her longest outing of the season.Â
- Crossman earned the save in back-to-back days. She became the first Delaware pitcher with a save in back-to-back games since Megan Stauffer on April 23-24, 2022 against Hofstra.Â
- Delaware has hit a home run in four-consecutive games, tying its longest streak of the season (Feb. 28-March 6, 2026).Â

Delaware plays a midweek game against Villanova on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.Â

Softball season ticket deposits are available now. Season ticket packages and individual game tickets will go on sale later this winter.
Individual ticket prices will be $10 per game and $5 for youth (ages 3-12). Season ticket packages will be available at 50 percent off the single-game rate. There will also be group rates, incentives, and additional gameday experience opportunities. All seating will be general admission at Delaware Softball Diamond.
UD students will continue to receive free tickets to all home softball games.
