NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball defeated Villanova, 5-2, for its third straight win against the Wildcats.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Katie Scheivert went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.
- Maddie Diamond hit a two-run home run.
- Allie Nankivell went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
- Gianna Costaro went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Jamie Chandler and Marlayna Capaldi each had a hit.
- Claire Woods pitched three innings and struck out four.
- Josie Crossman threw three shutout innings with three strikeouts in relief to earn the win.
- Karli Challburg earned the save with a scoreless seventh.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Villanova hit a two-out, two-run home run in the first inning to take an early lead.
- Delaware put up a three-spot in the second to take the lead. With Chandler and Capaldi on second and third with two outs, Nankivell singled home Delaware's first run. Scheivert then hit an RBI double to give Delaware a 3-2 lead.
- Woods coaxed a 4-6-3 double play to end the top of the third.
- In the bottom of the inning, Costaro singled and Diamond hit a two-run home run to put Delaware ahead 5-2.
- Crossman came on in the fourth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning, then struck out two in a scoreless fifth. She then stranded two runners in the sixth by inducing a groundout.
- Challburg earned the save in the seventh, striking out the final hitter to end the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware has won three straight games against Villanova, its longest streak against the Wildcats since winning four straight from 2016-17.
- In Delaware's last eight games against Villanova, the pitching staff has held the Wildcats to a 1.37 ERA since 2021.
- Delaware has homered in a season-best five straight games.
- After Josie Crossman earned saves in UD's wins on Saturday and Sunday against Missouri State, Delaware has recorded a save in three consecutive games for the first time since March 16-20, 2024. Emily Winburn and Kendall Shank were credited with saves during that streak.
- Scheivert recorded her 52nd career multi-hit game. She leads Delaware with 10 multi-hit games this season. She now has 187 career hits, passing Laura Streets for seventh-most in program history.
- Diamond's home run was the seventh of her freshman season. She is now tied with Costaro (2024) and Brooke Glanden (2019) for the third-most home runs by a freshman in Delaware history. She trails only Anna Steinmetz (15, 2016) and Mariah Kondravy (15, 2015).
- Nankivell extended her hit streak to a career-high-tying five games with her eighth career multi-hit game. She has reached base in a career-long 11 straight games.
- Nankivell is hitting .519 (14-for-27) in March, .529 over her last 14 games, and .443 since Feb. 10.
- Crossman has made three straight scoreless appearances, throwing 6.2 innings in that stretch with six strikeouts, zero walks, and five hits allowed.
- Challburg's save was the first of her career.

Delaware has a three-game series with Liberty, the defending Conference USA champions, beginning Friday.

Softball season ticket deposits are available now. Season ticket packages and individual game tickets will go on sale later this winter.
Individual ticket prices will be $10 per game and $5 for youth (ages 3-12). Season ticket packages will be available at 50 percent off the single-game rate. There will also be group rates, incentives, and additional gameday experience opportunities. All seating will be general admission at Delaware Softball Diamond.
UD students will continue to receive free tickets to all home softball games.
