JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of Delaware women's lacrosse senior Ella Rishko has been named the Atlantic Sun (ASUN) Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. The honor, the first for the Fightin' Blue Hens in their first season in the ASUN, recognizes Rishko's performance in Delaware's two conference victories over Jacksonville and Stetson.
Rishko led Delaware with 18 draw controls and eight caused turnovers in UD's two games, while also adding three ground balls. The senior also led the Blue Hens on the offensive side with eight points on seven goals and an assist, and her six goals against Stetson on Saturday were the most in a game by a Blue Hen since Lizzie Yurchak in 2023. She had nine draw controls in both contests, the third and fourth time this season she has recorded nine in a single game. Rishko also tied her career high with four caused turnovers in each game.
With Rishko leading the way, Delaware held a 38-14 advantage in draw controls over the two games, including a 20-9 advantage over Jacksonville which was leading the ASUN in draw controls entering the contest. The Blue Hens held their two opponents to 69% (25-36) in clearing attempts, including holding Stetson to 50% (10-20).
The Rehoboth Beach, Delaware native continues to lead Delaware in scoring with 32 goals and 41 points on the season. She leads the ASUN in both goals and goals per game (2.91) and is fourth in points. Even as an attacker, Rishko ranks fourth in the ASUN in draw controls (61) and draw controls per game (5.55) and is tied for fifth in caused turnovers (19).
This is Rishko's second-career weekly award. She was previously named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week as a freshman in 2023.
