Offense Breaks Out as Women’s Lacrosse Downs UMBC 16-8

NEWARK, Del. – Ten different players scored goals and the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team earned it's first win of the 2026 season, exploding for 16 goals in a 16-8 victory over UMBC on Wednesday afternoon at Delaware Stadium. With the win, the Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 1-3 overall, while the Retrievers fall to 4-2.

Molly and our draw unit did an incredible job getting our team possession. I'm proud of the energy, effort, and presence our team showed today."

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Ella Rishko led Delaware with four goals while also adding eight draw controls.
- Morgan Gore also recorded a hat trick, while Maggie Craytor and Lulu Rishko both finished with three points.
- Grayson Buono, Jaclyn Marszal, Sophia Muscolino, and Riley Sturtevant each had a goal and an assist.
- McKenzie Didio added a tally and Sydney O'Donnell scored her first-career goal.
- Maggie Farragher led Delaware's defense with three ground balls.
- Molly Baumgratz doubled her career high with eight draw controls.
- Steph Marszal recorded her second-straight 10-save performance, making 10 stops.
- The Blue Hens outshot UMBC 37-25 and finished with an 18-7 advantage in draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware opened the scoring with a flurry of goals midway through the first quarter. Didio broke the deadlock before Craytor scored her first of the season just 30 seconds later. E. Rishko made it 3-0 with 4:11 left in the opening quarter.
- UMBC fought back to tie the game early in the second quarter, but consecutive free-position goals by Gore and E. Rishko less than a minute apart regained the lead for the Blue & Gold.
- E. Rishko completed her hat trick with 5:53 left in the second quarter to make it 6-4.
- With less than a minute left before halftime, L. Rishko led a fast break and found Gore who went in alone on the goalkeeper to make it 7-4 at the midway point.
- Goals by E. Rishko and Sturtevant extended UD's advantage to 9-5 in the third quarter before Muscolino fired home her first goal of the season with 1:07 on the clock to give Delaware a 10-5 lead after 45 minutes.
- L. Rishko found the back of the net twice and Gore completed her own hat trick to make it a 12-6 game with 5:55 left in the fourth quarter.
- Buono, O'Donnell and J. Marszal all scored in the final three minutes to provide the final margin.
GAME NOTES
- Wednesday was the second game this season that E. Rishko and Gore both scored a hat trick in the same game.
- It was E. Rishko's third hat trick of the season, and 18th of her career. Gore now has two this season and eight for her career.
- The 10 different goal scorers is the most for Delaware since 11 Blue Hens scored in a 16-6 victory over Campbell on April 12, 2024.
