Softball Claims Series Against UTEP with 6-4 Win

EL PASO, TEXAS - University of Delaware softball won its second straight game over UTEP, 6-4. With the victory, Delaware claimed the weekend series over the Miners and improved its conference record to 7-7.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Sydney Shaffer hit a two-run home run as part of a 2-for-3, three-RBI game. She also drew a walk.
- Katie Scheivert went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double.
- Allie Nankivell had a hit and scored two runs.
- Gianna Costaro and Maddie Diamond each had a hit. Diamond also walked once and scored a run.
- Caylin Blazys had a pinch-hit RBI single.
- Karli Challburg earned the win in relief, pitching four innings and allowing just one hit, one walk, and one unearned run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware got off to a quick start in the first inning with a three-run frame. Nankivell reached on an error before Scheivert doubled her home. Shaffer then hit a home run for a 3-0 lead.
- UTEP got two runs back in the bottom of the first with a home run.
- Josie Crossman pitched a perfect second inning, but UTEP tied the game at three in the third.
- UD put up three runs in the fourth with two outs to go up 6-3. Blazys delivered a pinch-hit RBI single for the lead, then two runs scored after Shaffer worked a bases-loaded walk, with Nankivell coming all the way around from second.
- Challburg entered in the bottom of the fourth and worked a scoreless inning, helped by Shaffer catching a runner stealing.
- Challburg then pitched perfect innings in the fifth and sixth.
- UTEP scored an unearned run in the seventh but Challburg sealed the win and the series
GAME NOTES
- Delaware's series win was UD's first road CUSA series win.
- Delaware has hit a home run in 10 of its last 12 games and has 25 home runs in 21 games since Feb. 28.
- Nankivell extended her career-long on-base streak to 16 straight games, the longest by a Delaware player this season.
- Scheivert extended her hit streak to six straight games, tying a season long. She has 14 multi-hit games this season and 56 for her career.
- Scheivert upped her career hit total to 196.
- Shaffer hit her 36th career home run and 12th of the season. She has four home runs in her last five games and six in her last 10 games.
- Costaro was hit by a pitch for the 22nd time in her career, two shy of tying Shelby Jones for second in program history.
- Challburg earned the fifth win of her career.
- Offensively, Delaware has averaged 5.9 runs per game over its last 12 games and 6.4 runs per game over its last 10.

Softball season ticket deposits are available now. Season ticket packages and individual game tickets will go on sale later this winter.
Individual ticket prices will be $10 per game and $5 for youth (ages 3-12). Season ticket packages will be available at 50 percent off the single-game rate. There will also be group rates, incentives, and additional gameday experience opportunities. All seating will be general admission at Delaware Softball Diamond.
UD students will continue to receive free tickets to all home softball games.
