Defense Dominates as Women’s Lacrosse Advances to ASUN Championship with 10-4 Win over Lindenwood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The top-seeded University of Delaware women's lacrosse team shut out fourth-seeded Lindenwood for the entire second half, pulling away for a 10-4 victory on Thursday afternoon in the Atlantic Sun (ASUN) Conference semifinals. The Fightin' Blue Hens improve their winning streak to 12 games and sit at 13-4 overall, while Lindenwood finishes its season at 8-11.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Ella Rishko led Delaware's offense with four goals and an assist, while stuffing the stat sheet with six draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Jaclyn Marszal added two points on a goal and an assist.
- Mary Matey scooped a career-high five ground balls.
- Sydney O'Donnell finished with a career-high five caused turnovers and Kennedy Radziul added three.
- Steph Marszal made eight saves in goal, tying a career high with a .667 save percentage.
- The Blue Hens held a 10-6 advantage at the draw control, including an 8-2 mark after the first quarter.
- UD's defense forced 25 Lindenwood turnovers and held the Lions to just 14-of-24 in clearing attempts, while Delaware was 20-of-22 in that category.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game started in a downpour and offense was hard to come by. E. Rishko opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game as she caused a turnover in the midfield and took it all the way herself.
- A turnover on the defensive end led to another UD fast break and Lulu Rishko capitalized off a Grayson Buono feed to make it 2-0.
- Following a Lindenwood score, E. Rishko cashed in on her second of the quarter. Porter buried a free-position goal in the final minute to give UD a 4-1 lead after the first quarter.
- The Lions cut the lead to one before E. Rishko completed her first-half hat trick from the 8-meter.
- Lindenwood scored again before halftime as the Blue Hens went into the break with a 5-4 lead.
- Julia Ciufo scored off a rebound early in the third quarter to stretch the lead back to two.
- J. Marszal added one from in front of the crease to make it a 7-4 game at the end of three quarters.
- McKenzie Didio buried a J. Marszal feed just 29 seconds into the fourth quarter to continue the run.
- Following a 35-minute weather delay, Riley Sturtevant and E. Rishko capped the scoring to provide the 10-4 final.
GAME NOTES
- It is Delaware's first conference tournament victory since 2009.
- The 13 wins are the most by a UD team since the 1999 season.
- Delaware improved its winning streak to 12-consecutive games, the longest streak in a single season in program history. Delaware won 18-straight games between the 1982-83 seasons.
- E. Rishko surpassed the 50-goal mark for the season, becoming the first Blue Hen to reach 50 goals since Jenn Rinnander in 1994.
