Torrian Jones enters his seventh year as an assistant coach with the University of Delaware men’s basketball staff in 2022-23.
Jones played a key role in returning Delaware basketball to a place it has only been six times in program history with the CAA Championship title and NCAA Tournament First Round appearance in 2022. It marked the Blue Hens’ first conference crown since the 2014 season.
In its time in Newark, the staff has recruited and coached six Blue Hens to the pros, including Delaware’s first-ever NBA player, Nate Darling.
The Blue Hens have also garnered three CAA Rookie of the Year awards, 20 All-CAA honors, and five All-District nods, under the current staff.
Jones arrived in Newark after spending the previous two years as an academic counselor in the Notre Dame academic services for student-athletes department where he provided academic support and counseling for multiple Irish teams. He also served as the color commentator for Notre Dame men’s basketball broadcasts during both years.
Jones served two years as an assistant coach at Pennsbury (Pa.) High School, his alma mater, during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, prior to serving as head assistant coach at Bryn Athyn (Pa.) College in the 2013-14 campaign. He also was a skills coach at the Jones Basketball Academy in Fairless Hills, Pa. from 2006-08.
Jones was a four-year member of the Irish men’s basketball team from 2000-04, averaging 4.6 points per game while appearing in 123 contests during his career. He played with Ingelsby in 2000-01 during his freshman campaign and served as a team captain during his final two years.
A graduate of the Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business in 2004, Jones continued his playing career with the West Chester Wildfire of the USBL, the Florida Flame of the NBA Development League, and the Albany Patroons of the USBL from 2005-06.
