The momentum carrying through Pibernat's second year as head coach was clear as freshman, Piotr Siekanowicz earned a spot at ITA Men's Sectional Championships in October of 2024. Siekanowicz also was invited to the M15 Ann Arbor competition where he qualified for sectionals, earning his third ATP point. Overall, Pibernat collected a team score of 14-9 on a schedule comprised of the nation's top tennis programs. In conference play, the Blue Hens went 3-0 in the regular season and made it to the CAA Championship semifinals before falling to #69 UNCW after winning the doubles point. The men's program saw many post-season honors including Siekanowicz being awarded CAA Rookie of the Year with four student-athletes also represented on the All-CAA rosters. Two athletes earned CSC Academic All-District recognition and Alexandre Gluck broke the program record of career singles matches won with 74 wins.
Pibernat's first season with the Blue Hens saw an overall record of 16-4 with 4-1 in conference play. In the fall, Alexandre Gluck and Daniel Krulig made it to the gold draw of the ITA Atlantic Regional doubles competition. Senior, Luis Molina successfully broke the program record of career singles matches played at 110 with his battle against Drexel. The team advanced to the CAA Championship Quarterfinals and earned many post-season accolades including two All-CAA honors and five CSC Academic All-District recognitions.
An experienced tennis professional, Pibernat was named University of Delaware Head Men's Tennis Coach, Director of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation Chrissi Rawak in August of 2023. Pibernat reports to Director of Tennis Pablo Montana, who also serves as the Head Women's Tennis Coach. This hiring gives both programs a head coach and full-time assistant coach as the department continues to make investments into the tennis programs.
"I'm excited to welcome Marc, his wife Amy, and their daughters Mía and Lola to the Blue Hen family," Rawak said. "Marc's experience developing some of the best tennis players in the Atlantic 10 and his work at the juniors level will help our program continue to grow. Our student-athletes are always our top priority, so being able to invest in additional coaches will allow the programs to excel."
Pibernat comes to Newark after spending the last six seasons at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He was elevated to the position of head coach of the Hawks' men's tennis program in January 2022 after four-plus seasons as an assistant coach with both men's and women's tennis squads.
"I have known Marc for several years and he will be a great addition to our coaching staff," Montana said. "He brings tremendous success as a head coach from St. Joes, and has a proven track record for recruiting top talent around the world including current assistant coach Nate Perrone. I am excited to work with Marc and collaborate on new ideas with him as both programs continue to reach new heights at the University of Delaware."
During his time as the leader of the men's program on Hawk Hill, Pibernat led SJU to high honors as both a team and as individuals. The squad had arguably its best season in 2022, posting a 14-4 dual match record and earning the second seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship before falling in the semifinals. Former Hawk and current Delaware assistant coach, Nate Perrone, was named the A-10's Most Outstanding Performer in 2022 before Inigo Diaz earned Most Outstanding Rookie honors from the conference a year later.
"I'd like to thank Pablo Montana, Chrissi Rawak, Jenn Judy, and the entire search committee for giving me the opportunity to join such an incredible university and athletic department," Pibernat said. "I'm eager to start working with the team and to get to know the players and start building the relationship as well as the team culture. I'm so excited to be reunited with Nate Perrone, who I coached at St. Joe's and I am looking forward to leading the Blue Hens with him."
"I'd also like to thank St. Joe's for an incredible six years, entrusting me with the development and care of the tennis programs."
Since moving into the coaching ranks, Pibernat has worked with some of the top junior players in Europe and the U.S. He was also part of the coaching team of Steven Diez at the US Open in 2016, 2019, and 2021.
Pibernat began his playing career as one of the top juniors in Spain before training at the Catalan Tennis Federation's International Tennis Federation Center in Barcelona at age 15. While there, he trained with a number of top 100-ranked ATP players. He then began competing across Europe, earning his first career ATP point when he reached the doubles quarterfinals of a Futures event in Balaguer, Spain. Playing in Belgium, Pibernat was paired with former pro Libor Primek, who at one point was ranked as high as 21st in the world in singles and 15th in the world in doubles, in the top singles and doubles flights for his club.
He then came to the United States, enrolling at Anderson University in South Carolina. He made his presence felt right away, helping lead the Trojans to three consecutive Carolinas Conference titles and a top-20 national ranking while playing in the NCAA Tournament each year of his collegiate career.
A 2010 graduate of Anderson, Pibernat earned his MBA from Philadelphia University in 2011. He and his wife, Amy, have two daughters, Mía and Lola.
