Bio: Full name is Marlayna Renee Capaldi... Born in Wilmington, Delaware... Daughter of Scott and Irina Capaldi... Second of two children in her family... Has an older sister, Samantha - also attends University of Delaware... Cousin, aunt, and uncle all graduated from Unviersity of Delaware... Plays softball right-handed, but does everything else with her left... Majoring in pre-business... Attended Charter School of Wilmington in Wilmington, Del., which is a very academically competitive... high school and ranked No. 1 in Delaware, No. 76 nationally and No. 16 for Charter High Schools in the US News & World Report... Graduated with a 3.955 grade-point average, second honors taking college preparatory classes... Lettered and started at both third and shortstop for five seasons in softball, while also lettering her eighth- and ninth-grade seasons in track... Was team captain her final two prep seasons and led The Force to a pair of conference championships and a pair of state tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019... Was a 2022 Gold Glove recipient in the Blue/Gold Game... Ranked in Extra Innings Softball for the class of 2022... Finished her senior season with a .382 batting average and a 1.064 OPS... Of her 21 hits, 10 were doubles, while she also scored 23 runs, drove in 14, walked 11 times and stole nine bases... As a junior, batted .313 and had a .485 on-base percentage, while also posting a .983 fielding percentage in the middle of the infield... Earned honorable mention all-conference honors... In a shortened 2020 season, she had 10 singles, three doubles, two triples and a home run, while driving in nine runners... Helped team to conference titles in 2021 and 2018... Played eight years of travel ball for four clubs – Orange Crush, Angels Fastpitch, Delaware Cobras and New Jersey Intensity... Final two travel seasons were with NJ Intensity where she saw time at both middle infield positions... Played against top level competition and in some of the nation’s best tournaments at the Arizona... Bombers Exposure College Station, Top Club National Oklahoma City, IDT Boulder, Easton Invitational Chicago, and PGF National Huntington Beach... Against some of the best competition at the Cali PGF, she recorded six singles, three doubles and three RBI... Posted a .429 average and a .984 fielding percentage during her fall club season and a .319 average during the spring
