"Kelly's resume speaks for itself with her experiences as a player and a coach," remarked Delaware head coach Amy Altig. "She has won two national championships, has been recognized by the Tewaaraton committee, spent some time on the US National Team and currently plays in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL). Her relevance to the sport is something that's going to help elevate our player development. Kelly is very personable and her excitement level and her knowledge of the game and winning culture in a family setting is something that will positively affect our program. She has all the traits that we're looking for as we build the culture at Delaware."
McPartland arrives in Newark after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Columbia University. During her tenure, the Lions continually showed improvement and made the program's first-ever trip to the Ivy League Tournament in 2018 after posting a three-win conference record for the first time in school history.
A native of Farmingdale, N.Y., McPartland currently plays professionally in the WPLL as a midfielder for the Fight. Prior to joining the WPLL for its inaugural season in 2018, she played for Long Island Sound in the United Women's Lacrosse League for two years. In November 2018, McPartland was part of a 15-player team which traveled to Japan with the WPLL to help grow the sport around the world.
As a member of the US Women's National Lacrosse Team from 2011 to 2015, McPartland won a gold medal for Team USA at the 2011 FIL Women's U-19 World Lacrosse Championship in Hanover, Germany.
Prior to joining the Columbia program, McPartland spent the previous four years as a standout midfielder at the University of Maryland. As a Terrapin, she recorded 125 goals along with 62 assists, lifting Maryland to back-to-back National Championships in 2014 and 2015.
As a junior, she scored a goal in all but two games with a season-total of 61 and a team-leading 94 points en route to the 2014 national crown. As a senior, she served as team captain, leading the Terrapins in defending their national championship title. McPartland was also a three-time NCAA All-Tournament Team pick.
Along with two national championships, three ACC Conference Championships and a Big Ten Championship, McPartland was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List in 2013, 2014 and 2015 while also garnering First Team All-Conference and All-American honors in 2014.
McPartland is no stranger to the University of Delaware as her sister, Stacey was a defender for the Blue Hens women's lacrosse team from 2006 to 2008.
McPartland graduated from Maryland in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in hearing and speech sciences.
