Delaware Men's Golf Team Tied For 13th Place Following Second Day of ODU Outer Banks Collegiate Invitational

POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team recorded a 302 team score on Monday and is tied for 13th place out of 18 squads following the second day of the ODU Outer Banks Collegiate Invitational.
The Blue Hens fired a 295 on Sunday before their 302 on Monday to post a 597 score through two rounds. Liberty recorded a sizzling 276 during the second round and has a 557 score through Monday's action, while Georgia is just one shot behind at 558. Winthrop sits in third place at 577, host Old Dominion is fourth at 581, and George Washington rounds out the top five at 582.
Junior Ben Conroy (at right) had the best day by a Blue Hen, carding a one over par 73 on the par 72, 6,535-yard Kilmaric Golf Course, and is tied for 26th place in the individual standings with a three over par 74-73-147. Conroy found himself two over par through four holes but birdied 14 and parred four straight holes to finish the back nine at one over. Birdies on 2 and 4 moved him to even for the day, before four pars and a bogey on 7 ended his round at one over.
Senior Stephen Scialo followed his opening round of 73 with a three over par 75 on Monday, ending the day tied for 33th place with a four over par 73-75-148. Scialo posted seven pars on a two over back nine, and he was four over on the day before finishing with a birdie on 8 and a par on 9 to conclude the round at three over.
Fellow senior Greg Matthias also fired a 73 on Sunday before a four over par 76 during his second round, and sits at five over par 73-76-149 to tie for 44th place. Matthias posted a four over par back nine that included two birdies, two bogeys and a pair of double bogeys, but birdied 2 and 6 during an even par front nine to finish four over for the day.
Sophomore Dan Costenbader, who fired a 75 on Sunday, carded a six over par 78 during Monday's round and is tied for 64th place with a nine over par 75-78-153. Costenbader posted birdies on 16 and 18 to finish his back nine at even par, but had four bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine to conclude the day at six over.
Sophomore Corey Wagner improved on his opening round 83 by shooting a seven over par 79 on Monday, finishing the day tied for 83rd place with an 18 over par 83-79-162. Wagner was three over through the back nine, before a four over front nine put him at seven over for the day.
T.J. Mitchell of Georgia continues to lead the individual standings with a 10 under par score of 64-70-134, while Robert Karlsson of Liberty is just one shot back.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with the third and final round beginning at 8 a.m
