University of Delaware Men's Golf Head Coach Mike Keogh Announces Signings of Two High School Standouts

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware men's golf head coach Mike Keogh has announced the signings of high school standouts Kyle Martin and Braden Shattuck who will join the Blue Hen program in the fall of 2012.
Martin, a native of Ambler, Pa. who attends Christopher Dock High School, earned medalist honors by finishing in first place out of 72 players at the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Preseason Event at Basking Ridge on May 7-8 by carding a 73-72-145. He also placed an impressive ninth out of 122 golfers at the 61st Pennsylvania Junior Championship at Hershey Country Club-East on July 6-7 with a 72-77-149.
Martin (at right) won the Montgomery County Junior Amateur at Plymouth Country Club on August 5 by firing a 72, and finished third at the IJGT Major at Hershey Links in early April after carding 73-74-147. Additionally, he was fifth at the AJGA Corse Max/Philadelphia Runner at White Manor Country Club with a 75-77-73-225, and placed sixth at the District One Championship at Turtle Creek Golf Club on October 11-12 with a 77-72-149.
Shattuck, a native of Aston, Pa. who attends Sun Valley High School, won the Junior PGA Championship qualifier at Concord Country Club this year by firing an eight under par 66-68-134. He also earned medalist honors at the Philadelphia Junior Tour Dover Series with a 73-71-72-216.
Shattuck (at left) posted a top 30 finish with a 76-72-79-74-301 at the Optimist International Championship at the PGA National Champions Course this year, and tied for 17th place with a two over par 73 at the U.S. Open Qualifier at Applebrook Golf Course. He posted two victories in 2010, winning Philadelphia Junior Tour events at Honeybrook Golf Club with a two under par 68 and at Concord Country Club with a four under par 67.
“Our men's golf program is very fortunate to attract two really strong players in Kyle and Braden,” said Keogh, who is currently in his 11th season leading the Blue Hens. “Their success in numerous tournaments over their high school careers and summers should provide major benefits to our team over the next four years. Our staff has watched them play in a number of events, and they carry themselves on and off the course with character and focus, which is exactly what we are always striving to add to the roster.”
